cenobites: (Don't Blink)
[personal profile] cenobites
On January 3rd, 2002, I created my first Livejournal account from an invite code, which means ten years tomorrow. However, in that time, LJ has sold out to the Russians who have implemented more changes than I care to count. Most were not that obtrusive; nothing that couldn't be overlooked when Firefox has an adblocker installed, and still, despite the dwindling amount of people actually using LJ, I tended to pay for my account more often than not even when I wasn't using it. When I left Lost Land, I finally let it run out without paying, because I really didn't need those extra icons anyway.

I did still use LJ, every single day, to read my f-list and comment on things. But about ten days ago, LJ changed the default commenting system for the worse.

The one unique thing LJ still had going for it was its comment threading system and the easy way you could collapse and navigate threads. Now, since it's all Ajax and Javascript-based (I believed I read; while I do web design, I'm not a web developer), and it no longer works like it used to. It also no longer works on my iPhone, where I am unable to comment at all.

Well over 10,000 comments of complaint have gone mostly unaddressed by LJ's English-speaking staff while LJ's Russian staff laughs at us on Twitter.

You see where I'm going?

Dreamwidth, which retains LJ's old code and therefore, cleaner comment system, is still accepting free accounts. You can import everything from LJ. DW is very much fandom-welcoming (which is mostly what I used LJ for now anyway.) And so, here I am.

Kind of irritated that someone on DW is using my LJ username on an unused Tony Stark Rp journal, but I always wanted a Hellraiser-based username anyway. :)

I'll still log into LJ to read my f-list and comment, but I think nine years and 364 days later, this is likely my last post. Feel free friend me on DW.
